Bounce rate

The share of sessions that end after a single pageview with no other interaction.

What it means

Bounce rate is the percentage of sessions where a visitor lands on your site, looks at a single page, and leaves without triggering another pageview or event. A session of one pageview "bounces"; a session of two or more does not.

Why it matters

A high bounce rate can mean the landing page did not match what the visitor expected, or that a single-page visit is exactly what they wanted. Read it alongside session duration and the pages that earn the bounces before drawing a conclusion.

How Clickbase measures it

Clickbase counts a bounce by session, regardless of tracking mode: a session of one pageview bounces, a session of two or more does not. What differs is how the session is identified. In cookie mode, a first-party cookie carries the session id. In cookieless mode, sessions are stitched with a daily-rotating salted hash of IP and user agent, so no cookie is needed, at the cost of not tracking a visitor across days.
